Great Saimaa is the largest lake in Finland and
the fourth largest in Europe extending as far as Varkaus in the west and Joensuu in the
east. Its entire area is 1700 sq. Km and it has a total of 13,700 km of shoreline
including the islands.

Natural harbours and camping harbours
In addition to marinas, the Saimaa district offers thousands of alternatives for
camping out. However, as the environment is extremely vulnerable, we recommend mooring to
natural and camping harbours specially desingned for this purpose and avainlable for
boaters free of charge.
